Red Square (Krasnaya Ploshchad in Russian) is the most famous space in Moscow and arguably, in the entire world. Centrally located in the city with many of the major roads radiating from this point, Red Square is often also referred to as the center of Russia. The origins of the name can sometimes be confused with the link between communism and the color red or the red brick walls of the Kremlin (the complex of buildings that contain the Russian government offices), however the name is in fact derived from the Russian word “krasnaya” meaning “red” or “beautiful”.
